Perfecting winged liner is no easy feat. For me, I have to dodge my eye socket bones and it feels like I’m living on the edge! It’s like taking my drivers test all over again, making sure not to hit the curb and going around those orange coneswithout knocking them over. The F1 Silverstone track has nothing on me! More often than not, I find myself reaching for gel eyeliners like MAC’s Fluidline in Blacktrack or Inglot’s No 77. My brushes of choice are a MAC 210, a Sigma Eyeliner brush E11 or a Zoeva Winged Eyeliner brush.
However, I don’t mind eyeliner pens, liquid liners and eyeliner pencils.
So when I saw the Urban Decay Ink For Eyes, at the Sandton City store in Johannesburg, I knew I had to try it. I’m down with anything that can help me get that precise fine line to, you guessed it, ‘ cut a b&*^th!’
I got the shade Perversion, which is super black! This dries down to a semi-glossy finish.
It is waterproof, long lasting and the length and width of the pen makes it easy to grip onto. The packaging is gorgeous. I do not own anything like it. It is gunmetal with lilac lettering. Urban Decay knocked it out of the park with the packaging. It’s edgy.
But, is it just a pretty face? How does it perform? This eyeliner pen has the finest tip I have ever seen on a pen liner. It’s firm enough to create a straight line and flexible enough to mould to the contour of your unique eye shape to create a beautiful winged, cat-eyeliner.
It dispenses just the right amount of product so it doesn’t skip as much on the skin, which creates those jagged edges when you are trying to wing out your eyeliner. I say this because it did skip on me, not as much as other pen liners, just a few times. It was probably my technique, tbh. You can also go bold and create a think 70s inspired winged liner or just line your upper lash line.
Before you reach for Methylated spirits, note, it’s not terribly difficult to remove. Any eye make up remover works, it doesn’t stain but I think an oil-based remover or coconut oil with take it off easily without tugging and pulling at your eye.
In terms of performance, I can’t fault this. Sure, I can do all kinds of flicks and tricks on anyone else but this has helped me gain the confidence to do my own eyeliner after my makeup! The only con is the price . . . she’s sssspensive . . .
Price: R349 for 0,59 ml
Where to buy: Urban Decay store in Sandton City. A store is set to open in Cape Town soon. At this stage there is no online store.
Will I repurchase? Only if my budget allows. Yes, there are many eyeliners on the market and if you can make them work, well done! Do you think that R350 is crazy price pen eyeliner? Can you recommend an eyeliner that is easy to use and affordable? Help a sister out and comment down below!
Until next time
