It’s lightweight, full coverage and there are a wide variety of shades to choose from. Well, there are 11 shades . . . so . . .We have seen it on YouTube and I many a makeup junkie has been lusting after it after Jaclyn Hill slapped the Urban Decay Skin Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer on her face, no? You feel me? As soon as Urban Decay, opened their stand-alone store in Sandton City, Joburg, earlier this month, this was one of the items on my wish list. Don’t act like you don’t have a wish list 🙂 . . . so I picked it up.
I got the shade Medium Neutral. This shade is a few shades lighter than my skin tone, because, before anyone gets feelings, I bought it for brightening my under my eye area.
According to Urban Decay, this concealer has skin care benefits. Here’s what they say about it on their website:
“We loaded Naked Skin Concealer with lots of ingredients that are good for your skin. Matrixyl 3000 contains anti-wrinkle peptides to improve skin’s youthful appearance and elasticity. Japanese green tea revitalizes and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. Litchiderm™ (derived from lychee fruit) protects against dehydration, resulting in a brighter, more radiant complexion. And sodium hyaluronate helps skin attract and retain moisture.”
While I drink green tea and love eating lychees, I’m very skeptical about makeup that claims skincare benefits. However, if these ingredients has anything to do with the formula and wear-time, kudos to the peptides!
This is a lightweight concealer, while being full coverage. It comes in a plastic mini bottle with a flattened applicator. I love this applicator because thin enough at the tip to create crisp clean lines that a traditional doe-foot applicator can’t because those applicators are a chunkier at the tip, making precision work difficult. The chunkiness and wider surface area of the doe-foot applicator also deposits much more product on application and this can be messy and waste product. Also, having a thinner applicator means less tugging, which means less pressure on the delicate skin under the eye. It’s small so you won’t have any trouble taking this on a trip.
The coverage is full on me, but I sometimes need to go in lightly a second time because I’m high maintenance like that. If you need more than too coats, then this is not the concealer for you. It doesn’t dry down matte, which I like because it doesn’t give me that dry, taught feeling. It claims not to crease but it will if you do not set it with powder. I haven’t tried the baking method with it, but I do set it with loose powder with damp Beauty Blender, which I used to blend out my foundation or highlighter. I find that the moisture locks the concealer in place and it doesn’t move.
Ok, so if you got to the end of this post, you have gathered that I am a fan. But, here’s why this is one of the best concealers I have used.
I am a huge fan of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation. As I have mentioned before, it sets fast and it sets like cement. Because of this, I have often had a problem when applying concealer after my foundation, to highlight my face . . . because no matter the tool or spraying half a bottle of hydrating mist, the foundation lifts as I blend the concealer in. If you have had that problem, let me know in the comments section below. I mean, I make it work, but it’s work that I want to avoid if I can.
With this, it melts seamlessly into the cement . . . err . . foundation, which makes the Urban Decay Skin Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer a cut about the rest.
Where to buy: Urban Decay store, Sandton City (I gather a store is to open in Cape Town and I am not sure when or if it will be available online)
Price: R395 for 5ml
Yesssss, it sssspppppensive but if you have been following me for a while you know that I have no problem with spending a little more on complexion and skincare products. (With the exception drugstore concealers, like, LA Girl HD Pro Concealer, the Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser and the Maybelline Fit Me, sadly both Maybelline concealers are not available in Mzansi (South Africa).
I’m am a nitpicker, and very rarely rave about any product. I have one issue, the price, it costs a pretty penny. That said, it is Urban Decay, I didn’t expect anything else.
Do you think you will pick it up? Do you think it’s worth the splurge? I mean, add another R450 and you could get an UD Naked palette. No shade, no shame. It is what it is . . .
Until next time
Stay bless and beautiful
Love you all I like I do covering up dark circles
