MAC Magic of the Night Holiday 2015 Collection Haul {Review and Swatches}

When I saw the MAC Magic of the Night collection go live on www.maccosmetics.co.za, a switch in me tripped and I went into overdrive, wanting everything in sight,!

I did calm myself and got the In Extra dimension skinfinishes in Shaft of Gold and Oh! Darling.

I also picked up two limited edition colour drenched pigments and a lipstick. (Out of my element, because I’m not a lippie junkie)

I am, as you well know, a highlighter junkie. What I was totally going to sell the rims of my car for were the In Extra Dimension Skinfinishes.

I love the In Extra Dimension formula and own quite a few items in the formula, a few blushes, eye shadows (those are now permanent at MAC) and a bronzer.

When I heard that MAC was coming out with a highlighter  meant to be a dupe for the iconic Whisper of Guilt, I was over the moon , under the sun and deep in the sea with joy!

These highlighters can be a bit stiff in the pan. This isn’t the same creamy, buttery texture as the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors (pressed). It’s very easy to go cray with these highlighters. You can go BAM to Metal Man really fast.

These highlighters are all about high-impact shimmer. Apply this to the highpoints of your face and you will glisten!

I find it best to apply with a small tapered brush like the Real Techniques setting brush or for an offensive shine, try a fan brush!

It comes in a royal blue metallic pan with a plastic cover. It has a push button mechanism but don’t go travelling with this because this will break. I wish MAC had put these treasures in sturdier packaging, like the normal MSFs.

It’s beautiful all the same.

The In Extra Dimension Skinfinish Oh, Darling is a light metallic gold with a hint of peach.

This will suit most skin tones. I think that the shade may pull too yellow on very pale skinned beauties.

Shaft of Gold is a deep bronze.

While this highlighter seems to have taken the back seat while Oh Darling basks in the spotlight, this bronze beauty is equally breathtaking. This is multi-tasking. It is a great bronzy highlight. People with very deep skin tones will love this!

Side note: If you do have large pores, the metallic finishes are not forgiving and these will emphasize them.

Onto the colour drenched pigments! These come in teal eyeshadow pots and I wasn’t expecting much from these, but was pleasantly surprised.

Moon is Blue (bottom) No Taboos swatched.
Moon is Blue (bottom) No Taboos swatched.

Moon Is Blue is a royal blue with micro fine metallic blue sparkles that gives this pigment an iridescent edge.

No Taboos is a blackened blue with a deep violet undertone and I detected blue and pinky glitter. I own nothing like this.

The colour drenched pigments are not the softest of formulas in that they hold their shape and are indeed pressed but they are opaque as hell! One swipe wonders, no building up needed! While MAC does advise to use them wet, it’s pigmented enough to use dry. As you may have picked up, if have been following me for a while, I am currently obsessed with jewel-toned blues because they really make brown eyes pop! And I’m all about that ‘popping pigment life’! (There’s a mixed tape in there, somewhere)

The lipsticks in this collection are encased in purple bullets.

I did pick up All Fired Up , a bright fuchsia.

This is in the permanent line so there is no need to buy this now. This lippie is a retro matte, so it does tug at the lips on application.

Because they are a drying formula, you have to apply a good lip balm and exfoliate otherwise this lipstick will settle into fine lines and catch on dry lips, not cute, not even for Halloween.

Yes, the items are sssspensive, because of the limited edition packaging. I am happy with what I got. I did go nuclear for those In Extra Dimension Skinfinishes and they were worth it. The colour-drenched pigments are definitely items you should try.

Where to buy: www.maccosmetics.co.za or selected MAC counters.
