My skin was killing me in this tutorial, red, dry and all kinds of nasty . . . but the show must go on! For this tutorial, I created a warm, sultry and sexy smoky eye. I used the Zoeva Cocoa Blend palette. I chose this palette because it has very dupable shades. So you can use any similar shades you have at home to recreate this look. This look is great for all seasons and I love it for spring and summer evenings, when black smoky eyes can look a bit too, well, wintery. Winter has overstayed its welcome and it needs to go back to the northern hemisphere. I have really struggled with the cold this winter. My skin is dry, my lips are more chapped than usual and . . . uuurgh! I just can’t deal!!!!
I totes me-goats forgot to colour correct even though I have not had a decent nights sleep in like 2 weeks, but my trusty Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-In –Place Foundation (Cashew) covered EVERYTHING and I used just one layer! Got to heart this stuff.
My skin was really dehydrated and irritated and the cold didn’t help my redness. Yes, brown beauties get red too.
I used the Urban Decay B6 vitamin-infused complexion prep spray to soothe and calm my skin. It helped . . a bit . . .
Urban Decay concealer (Medium Neutral). This is a firm favourite, and dare I say Holy Grail? But I have a lot of concealers to go through before I repurchase it . . .
As usual I used Lyric from Kat Von D Shade and Light contour palette to set under eye. And I used it to contour as well.
I tried the Naked Flushed (Strip) for the first time in camera.– Used Bronzer and Blush –The highlighter was very disappointing. Full review here
So I used my never fail MAC Oh Darling! (In Extra Dimension Skin Finish)
Of course I thought all was buffed and done and applied my first lipstick only to realize that I had forgotten to set my makeup. I am so deur mekaar sometimes! But I got my act together and used Urban Decay All Nighter Setting spray to set everything in place.
I love the blendability of the Urban Decay Glide on 24/7 eye pencils and I loves me some Whiskey. It added depth to the red-brown shade. But I wanted a bit more intensity so I went in with a blackened brown called ‘Beans Are White’! The name doesn’t sound appealing but the colour is gorgeous.
I used my current favourite lashes, House of Lashes lashes (Boudoir)
As usual, the Inglot Gel Liner (No 77) covered my lash band.
I used MAC Laying Low paint pot. When I want a more smoky effect I shy away from MAC Soft Ochre or light eye shadow primers because I want the colours to pop but I still want to maintain that smouldering effect. A paint pot can work wonders and totally change a look! (True Story)
For lips:
Option 1
MAC Edge to Edge lip liner
MAC Velvet Teddy
Option 2
MAC Lasting Sensation Lip liner
MAC Relentlessly Red
Lip option 3
MAC Cherry
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (Beso)
My lipstick poses are very uncomfortable for me . . .lol
Despite this comedy of error, I managed to pull it off.
Oh and by the way, my foundation does match my body, despite what the hate I have been getting lately for that. One needs to shut it down before it becomes a problem. More on that issue later in the week.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and as usual, let me know your thoughts and what you want to see next. I have a bit of a list and I’m going through it. God willing I will be up to date soon. Perhaps I’ll try for a bonus video next week?
Until next time, stay blessed and beautiful
Love u all
