HIT! Urban Decay Vice lipstick palette (Review and swatches)

What’s better than a lipstick? Two lipsticks and the Urban Decay Limited Edition Vive Lipstick palette in Blackmail is a lipstick junkies dream!

There are 12 shades in this beautiful Vice Lipstick Palette.

I’d be lying if I say I am a lipstick hoochie, in fact, I buy lipsticks and hardly ever use them. I have about 70 or more lipsticks, I think I have opened about 45, the rest remain untouched. True story

This is why I don’t go ‘gaga’ over liquid lippies etc, like other beauty bloggers, it’s just not my thing.

I also favour MAC and Bobbi Brown lipsticks, so I never tried an Urban Decay lipstick before.

The palette that houses the dozen shades in a luxurious metallized gunmetal case has gold accents.

While the mirror-like palette is beautiful, you will get fingerprints all over it, effortlessly.

There Urban Decay Vice’ lip pengraved onto the cover of the palette.

Open up the palette and you will find a plastic flap with the letting ‘Lipstick is my vice’

Open the flap and you are greeted by 12 Urban Decay Vice lipsticks from neutral to bright, dark to light.

This limited-edition palette has it all, including all six finishes in the Vice lipstick range: Cream, Comfort Matte, Meg Matte, Shimmer, Metalized and Sheer.

MEGA MATTE: super-intense matte

COMFORT MATTE: our creamiest matte

CREAM: the original: creamy, badass luxury

METALLIZED: cream with a high level of pearl

SHEER: a punch of color with a sheer, shiny finish

SHEER SHIMMER: slightly transparent finish with floating pearl and a smooth texture

It comes with a handy dandy retractable lip brush, a must for a lipstick palette.

The wells have a special stair-step effect that’s perfect for wiping any excess lipstick off the brush (and keeping the lipstick in its compartment, not all over the palette).

When you’re done applying, flip the attached cover on top of the lipstick wells to keep the shades protected and the compact free of messes.

The top row has more daring brights while the bottom row has more ‘wearable’ shades.

In terms of product, each well contains 0,7 grams of product, which is 10,5g. It is bulky, but you can pop it into your handbag ) a big bag)

One full-size lipstick is 5,25g, which means you are getting the palette for the price of 2 full sized lipsticks and a lip brush.

Sheer Shame (berry sheer) – beautiful, but more gloss like, great pigmentation, transfers easily. not long lasting.

Firebird (deep fuchsia cream) – fuchsia with a glossy finish and a violet shift. Not long-wearing , super pigmented and bold without being too subtle.

Big Bang (bright pink sparkle) – This is a beautiful shade that I can only pull off as a lipstick topper.  Pigmentation is great, there is no gritty texture.

Disobedient (medium pink) – long wearing, pigmented and super comfortable to wear. Easy too apply.

EZ  (bright red-orange  cream) –  Perfect to compliment tan to deeper skin, long wearing, pigmented and super comfortable to wear. Easy too apply.

714 (bright red mega matte) – for being a mega matte , this applies seamlessly onto the lips. it’s a blue based red that will make your teeth white and will suit all skin tones.

Bottom row

Vanished (pale neutral nude sheer) – very sheer, not exceptionally glossy on me, but pretty for those beauties who want a bit of shine on their lips or to make a lipstick glossier.

1993 (medium brown matte) – Surprise, surprise, my favourite shade in the palette. The is super opaque , creamy and applies effortlessly. the one con is that it does fade and not long-lasting.

Ex-Girlfriend (nude-rose with pink shimmer Sheer Shimmer) – This shade is another shade that doesn’t do much to cover my lips, but over top of a lipstick, this is a winner.

Amulet (metallic brick rose – Metalized) – this shade is beautiful and I never thought i would like a metalled finished. I guess, this shade is not full-on molten metal, which in truth I wish the trend would die soon because , home shades on metallic hippies can look very cheap in my option. This shade is subtle enough to wear to work. Pigmentation is on point!

Conspiracy (plum-bronze shimmer) – This s another shade that while being shimmer, shows up on my lips. It is opaque , not long-lasting but very pretty.

Blackmail (deep berry wine matte) – I really thought this wold be the ‘black lipstick that screams look at me, I am trying to be edgy lol

However, this merlot shade is opaque, long-lasting and comfortable on the lips.

The pigment of the lipsticks vary, but overall, it is good with some shades out performing others. The apply smoothly for the most part. The texture determines the staying power.

Urban Decay says this super-sleek palette was made for experimentation. Been toying with trying a new shade but weren’t ready to commit?

Lipstick palettes is ideal for mixing shades and textures, creating ombre lips, using light and dark shades to contour your lips by creating depth and dimension or creating a custom colour.

Urban Decay suggests priming the lips with a coordinating of lip liner for longer wear, which I did with some of the shades, especially the sheer formulas, which wouldn’t show up on my lips, which are quite pigmented.

This is the Vice Lipstick formula has the proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ gives each shade its super-creamy texture, rich payoff and superior colour dispersion. Yummy butter blend comforts, hydrates and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, never dry.

Final Thoughts

This is great for someone who wants to try a range the Vice Lipsticks without buying and entire tube. I mean at R250, its sssspensive.

If you are stuck on neutrals, this is a way to incorporate shades you wouldn’t normally wear.

Steer clear of this if you are set in your lipstick ways, I do advise that you step out of your comfort zone, it’s lipstick, it wipes off (If you want to wipe it off, which I doubt.)
