Thinking pink was not always second nature. Believe or not, I am tomboy who loves make up. It doesn’t make sense, but you have to know me to understand! My modeling, dance led to my interest in make up and fashion and to this day, this is what makes my femininity shine as bright as my highlight (and y’all know I like to glow) . . . and if there is one eyeshadow palette
If any palette got hype on social media and is still getting hype, it is the Morphe 35o pallete. Read more
My dad was a trade artisan. He had this craftsman card and I remember it being a big deal back in the day because he had to go to Tshwane (Pretoria) to writes his exams. This was during the height of apartheid, so yeah, it was a big deal for a black man to do this.
He worked on the iconic Flamingo Hotel in Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, a province in South Africa. This hotel was pink, yip pink. he was also a master at brick work, true art.
When I saw the Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette for Face & Eyes, it reminded me of the hotel and I had this random thought that I wanted to build a house with the little bricks . . . errr . . . shimmer blocks . . . and yes, I may one build a house with pink shimmer bricks . . . anything is possible.
First off, the packaging on this super girly and with a lacy design on the front cover with warm nudes running down the side.
It looks like a pretty little book with a sweet bow to boot. It opens up into a shimmering page, but that’s not all.
Tucked behind are a decent sided mirror, small brush and small angle brush.
There’s also a leaflet that shows you how to highlight, contour, use the shimmer brick as an eye shadow and eyeliner.
Personally, I love using the bottom half to lightly bronze my skin or swirl my brush around the entire brick to give me an all over glow and a shimmer that’s ever so delicate and feminine but sexy all at the same time.
The shades in the Custom nude palette are pigmented when swatched but sheer out quite a bit when blended out. For a flirty sweet look use the top two two rows. You can definitely create an eye look using the bronzy shade.
You can definitely create an eye look using the bronzy shade or swirl those bottom two rows with your brush to really warm up the skin and get a bronzy highlight.
Either way, if not worn over an eye shadow primer, these colours will fade fast and they will crease if you have oily eyelids. Because they are all shimmer and without a strong colour base, wearing this on the eyes will work best as a sheer wash or washes of several colours on the eye. Using the darker shades to line the eye will add some definition, but for the eyes, the shades, especially from the top 3 rows work great as a brow bone highlight or in the inner corners of the eye.
While the product says you can contour with it, I strongly disagree. Firstly, it’s not pigmented enough to create a solid definition on the face. Secondly, the shades are shimmery and contour powders should be matte. With that going against it, I will agree with one thing . . . this is, at the moment, my favourite drugstore highlighter for every day.
It’s super compact and it will definitely be in my luggage on my next trip.
So, I may not have the house, but I sure as sunshine have the light, the highlight that is . . .
